Contemporary Club Program Chairs are charged with creating a diverse but cohesive program year for our members to enjoy. They are given certain parameters to follow, including trying to schedule programs related to each of the following fields: science, history, literature, current events and the performing arts. The performing arts program is typically held in May. The Chairs are encouraged to have local speakers in January and February to mitigate the chance that bad weather will prevent a speaker from being able to reach us. They are also strongly encouraged to avoid having CC members or their immediate family present to the club except in an emergency, such as a scheduled speaker having to cancel at the last minute.
If the Program Chairs are unable to schedule an appropriate speaker whom a member has proposed, either because the topic has already been covered by another speaker or because of scheduling conflicts, that speaker’s name is given to the next year’s program chairs. These decisions are made by the Program Chairs with input from the Program Committee and thus reflect a diversity of interests and objectives. For this reason, the Program Chairs do not offer specific feedback if a speaker is not chosen.
